The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK offers a wide ranging portfolio of awards and courses for everyone. There are a number of community courses, lifesaving and life support awards, open water awards, lifeguarding qualifications and training and assessing qualifications. No matter what you want to do, there is something for everyone!
The following pages give a brief outline of all the awards on offer within the West Region:
- Community Courses – These attendance courses are designed for the community to teach life support skills in dealing with adult, children and baby casualties. For more information, have a look at the following links: Save a Life Series.
- Lifesaving – These awards cover teaching lifesaving skills from Rookie level (for those aged up to 12 years) to the National Lifesaving Academy Programme (for those aged 12+) where you can achieve the highest award Distinction. People of all ages can take a lifesaving award at a level to suit their age and ability. The National Lifesaving Academy Programme now covers lifesaving in the pool, at the beach and in open water locations. - Life Support – These awards cover adult, child and baby CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), basic first aid and dealing with unconscious casualties. The two awards are Life Support and Life Support 3 – more details can be obtained by clicking here.
- Specialist Programmes – These programmes as specially designed for different environments and different groups. From the Police Lifesaving award to the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) to the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC), there are a wide range of awards available – click here for more information.
- Training and Assessing Qualifications – All of the above programmes are delivered by qualified Trainer Assessors or Rookie Instructors. There are a number of different qualifications for those youth members wanting to learn more about how to teach and assess, to those experienced members who want to train and support new teachers and assessors.
