Later this year, a group of 6 lifesavers from across the UK will be taking part in a 7-day international Youth Exchange, in the Czech Republic, with lifesavers from Iceland, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Participants will take part in a wide range of exciting activities which showcase the rescue work undertaken by our hosts, the Czech Red Cross Water Rescue Service. Participants will go rafting, train at one of the Czech Red Cross’ training centres, learn about climbing and take part in the 3-day National Youth Jamboree. Our hosts have squeezed in some time for sightseeing in Prague and Brnö.
During the trip, participants will also learn about the lifesaving and rescue work in Germany and Iceland; as well as developing new international friendships. The trip is an excellent opportunity for lifesavers to develop as young adults, with participants taking part in organising activities before and during the Volunteer Together exchange.
The trip is open to all those aged 14 to 18 years old and we will be taking 6 youth members from the UK – 3 male and 3 female. We will be leaving as a group, youth members and leaders, on 5th August from London flying to Brnö in the Czech Republic. We’ll be hosted by the Czech Red Cross throughout the trip and on 12th August we’ll fly back from Brnö to London.
Building on past international exchange experiences, participants will take part in some team building activities, so that participants and leaders can get to know each other before travelling to the Czech Republic. These activities will take place on the 9th/10th June and 7th/8th July and all participants are required to attend – a location will be set once we know where participants will be travelling from. Participants will be directly involved in organising and planning the trip and the UK based team building activities.
A large amount of the trip costs are being funded by the Czech Red Cross, but there are a few costs that participants will be expected to pay. Participants will need to fund their attendance at the team building activities in the UK, travel to and from the Czech Republic and insurance. The cost for flights and group insurance is expected to be approximately £250 (this is subject to change).
