RLSS UK West Region is running a Survive and Save Stillwater Training session on Saturday 18th June 2016 at Marine Lake in Clevedon.

The Survive and Save Stillwater Programme focuses on ‘lakes’ and other inland water environments so candidates learn about the effect of cold water on the body, locks, currents and much more. Elements from all three levels of the Survive and Save Programme will be covered (Bronze, Silver and Gold).

The session is open to all those aged 12 or over and no previous stillwater training is required. This session if delivered by volunteers and is subsidised by RLSS UK West Region, so that it is free to all.

Participants are invited to arrive from 10.30am ready for a 11am start. The session will start with some dryside training followed by lunch then a few hours in the water.

Participants will need the following:

  • Suitable warm clothing including hat and coat (pre- and post-swims);
  • Suitable footwear, for general wear and suitable for transiting concrete and for swimming;
  • Swimming kit;
  • Wetsuit, strongly recommended as per RLSS UK Open Water Training Guidelines;
  • Silicone cap x 1 (not white – red hats are available to buy on the day for £2);
  • Waterproof sunscreen;
  • Towel x 2 minimum;
  • Bag (suitable for carrying all kit and nutrition);
  • Thermos flask;
  • Drinking water;
  • Snack;
  • Long sleeved top and trousers (not jeans), suitable for the water.

Please let us know if you would like to be assessed for a Stillwater award and we can make arrangements to get you assessed either on 19th June, or at another mutually convenient time.

A medical form will need to be completed for all participants: Open Water Festival Medical Form.
