Have you heard of the new Survive and Save awards? At the RLSS Conference in 2011, the new senior lifesaving awards were announced. There are now 13 new awards and a change to the teaching and assessing structure. You now need to be a qualified Survive and Save Instructor to teach and assess the awards.
The Somerset Branch is running an update session for all those who want to teach the new awards or are interested in knowing more about them. The session will give you the opportunity to update to become an Instructor or Instructor Tutor (if you are eligible – see details below), information on the new awards, the chance to network with other instructors and the opportunity to ask questions. You’ll also have the chance to update your CRB (needs to be done every 2 years), as well as renew your Life Support 3 award.
The session takes place on Saturday 14th January at Puriton Village Hall – please arrive from 10am for a 10.30am start. The session should finish around 12noon/12.30pm and light refreshments will be provided. If you wish to do the update or your Life Support 3, please allow more time and bring a packed lunch/snack. If you would like to attend, please contact Alan at alan@rlsswest.org.uk or phone 07816 254 776 (leave a message and I’ll get back to you, if you don’t get through). The session is open to all, lifesaving TA’s, lifesaving teachers, lifeguarding TA’s, interested members, the list goes on… This session is run by the Somerset Branch, but members from across the West Region are invited to attend.
Please download our poster a display in your centre, club noticeboard or school – Workshop Poster.
**Eligibility: You need to be a Lifesaving TA, Lifesaving Teacher or Pool/Beach Lifeguard TA to do the online and paper based updates. Those with other qualifications may require extra training before being qualified. Check out the Survive and Save Update website at www.surviveandsave.co.uk.
**CRB Renewal: If you volunteer for the RLSS, your CRB is free. Although a CRB lasts for 3 years from the date of issue, the RLSS requires CRB’s to be updated every 2 years. If you are unsure if your CRB with the RLSS is still valid, contact Alan Sutherland using the details above. If you wish to renew your CRB with the RLSS, you will need to bring the identification required in the CRB Document list – click this link to download.
